How does it all work?
You and your partner will take to the trails, one starting on the bike, the other on foot. You will come to a challenge (like a puzzle, a task, or an obstacle), dismount the bike, do the challenge, then continue on the trails by the other mode of transport. IE if you were riding you will now run, if you were running, now you ride – on to the next challenge, until the final. At the end, you need to do the wall and the pit together, before you cross the finish line.

Am I going to get dirty?
Yes, mud is in the name and mud is going to get on you. The last challenge is a climbing wall and a mud pit that you need to wallow through.

Are there showers?
No, McIvor Lake is there, we plan to have a hose and you can jump in the lake if you wish. There will be a porto-potty on site as well.

What is the course?
From the start area in the parking lot of McIvor Lake, one person will start on the mountain bike, the other on foot. Entering the trails together at the south end. Approximately 1.5km later you will arrive at the challenge #1. The rider dismounts the bike, performs the challenge and then continues on foot. The runner arrives at the challenge, completes the first challenge, grabs the bike and continues on bike.

Challenge #2 is located back in the McIvor Lake parking lot, again about 1.5km, the rider dismounts does the challenge and continues on foot, the runner does the challenge and continues on the bike. The third leg is a separate loop to the north of the lake and the easiest of the riding legs, one person does the riding loop, one the running loop and returns to the McIvor Lake lot for challenge #3.

At challenge #3, you switch again rider / runner and head back out onto the first trail, challenge #4 is located at the same location as challenge #1 where you switch between rider and runner. Then heading back into the McIvor lot for the final switch.

Challenge #5 – the rider arrives, dismounts and jumps into our Hot Mud Prize Machine. In here you will get a Prize Number, that you can redeem at Swicked Cycles between 12:00pm and 1:30pm - you need to have your token to claim your prize, then continuing on foot for your final run leg. The runner comes to the Hot Mud Prize machine and does the same and then continues on bike for their final ride leg.

Final Challenge – The Wall and The Mud – you come back into the lot for your final challenge. The runner and rider must wait for each other and complete these together, to finish the event. Probably the rider will arrive first, dismount and wait for your runner, climb the wall and navigate the mud, CROSS THE FINISH LINE TO VICTORY! You just finished your first MUD, RUN, RIDE!

All together you will run about 5k each and ride about 7k each.

Anything else we need to know?
Using the trails around McIvor Lake is a privilege, trail permissions were received from City of Campbell River, Ministry of Forests and BC Hydro. Please respect the grounds and the trails, do not drop any garbage on the trail, use the garbage cans provided in the parking lot area, Be mindful of erosion in the trail area, try not to ride the brakes or skid out sections. Try not to go off trail and do not damage any existing wildlife that is out there. It’s a beautiful area to be, we would like to come back and we want everyone to enjoy it.

Thank you and see you on Saturday,
